It was a pleasure to welcome Dr Anurag Krishna (IMEC, Belgium) to the Cambridge Graphene Centre on 28 November 2025 as part of the QAMSS Advanced Technology Lecture series. Dr Krishna delivered an engaging and well-received talk titled:
“From Lab to Fab: Scaling Up Perovskite Photovoltaics for Industrial Deployment”
Metal halide perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have achieved rapid progress in recent years, reaching efficiencies above 27% for single-junction devices and around 35% for perovskite–silicon tandems. In his lecture, Dr Krishna outlined the key challenges and opportunities involved in translating these laboratory-scale breakthroughs into high-performance, large-area photovoltaic modules suitable for industrial production.
His presentation covered scalable deposition and interconnection processes, module and encapsulation design, and accelerated stability testing. He also highlighted recent results from imec and discussed the remaining bottlenecks in advancing perovskite PV technologies toward reliable, durable systems ready for outdoor deployment.
About the speaker
Dr Anurag Krishna is an R&D Project Leader at the Interuniversity Microelectronics Centre (imec), where he leads national, EU and industrial projects focused on perovskite photovoltaic technologies. He brings over a decade of experience in perovskite solar cells, spanning materials development, device engineering, nanoscale characterisation and scale-up.
He received his PhD from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, and later joined EPFL as a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellow, working with Prof. Michael Graetzel and Prof. Anders Hagfeldt. His research contributions include pioneering hole-transport materials, advanced passivation strategies enabling >25% efficiencies, and establishing imec’s full module-scaling framework.
Dr Krishna serves on the Editorial Board of Nature Scientific Reports and is a member of the Perovskite Technology Working Group of ETIP PV.
