Quantum and Advanced Materials technologies for a Sustainable Society

 

We are pleased to launch the 2026 Microfunding Competition, offering up to £5,000 per project for initiatives that advance our shared vision of a sustainable future shaped by cutting-edge science.

What we are looking for:

Funded projects will address at least three of the following aims:

  • Raise awareness of quantum and advanced materials for sustainability

  • Identify and overcome barriers to innovation and implementation

  • Promote good research practice and ethical conduct

  • Foster interdisciplinary and external collaboration

  • Support early career researchers

  • Generate measurable societal, technological or academic impact

Who Can Apply

All members of the University  students (UG/PG), postdocs, academics, assistant and academic-related staff  are eligible. We particularly welcome collaborative teams spanning different departments and disciplines. Project leads must be enrolled or under contract for the full duration of the project.

Key Information

  • Funding available: Up to £5,000 per project

  • Application deadline: 9 October 2026

  • Project completion deadline: 15 September 2027 (reports are due on 15 October 2027)

  • How to apply: Complete the Application Form and send it with a short CV (max. 2 pages per team member) to coordinator@qamss.cam.ac.uk

  • Announcement of results: 20 October 2026

  • Presentation: Successful teams will present their projects at the QAMSS Community Day in November 2026

  • Ethical approval and data protection, especially for projects involving public engagement or data collection
