We were delighted to welcome Dr Henry Semenenko (Quantinuum, UK) to the Cambridge Graphene Centre (CGC)for a QAMSS SRI Advanced Technology Lecture, where he delivered an insightful talk entitled “Fault-Tolerant Quantum Computing With Trapped-Ions.”
In his lecture, Dr Semenenko introduced Quantinuum’s trapped-ion quantum processors based on a quantum charge-coupled device (QCCD) architecture, highlighting how this approach enables high-fidelity operations alongside all-to-all qubit connectivity. He discussed how these hardware capabilities support advanced quantum algorithms and are key ingredients for progressing towards fault-tolerant quantum computing.
A central theme of the talk was Quantinuum’s next-generation software stack, which Dr Semenenko described as a fundamental departure from traditional circuit-building tools. He explained how the stack is designed to better exploit the strengths of trapped-ion systems and outlined how it enables the implementation of fault-tolerant quantum programs, bringing scalable quantum computing closer to practical deployment.

QAMSS researchers. We thank Dr Semenenko for an excellent talk and for sharing valuable perspectives on both hardware and software advances in fault-tolerant trapped-ion quantum computing.
