The Cambridge Graphene Centre was delighted to host a special QAMSS lecture on Monday, 7 July 2025, delivered by Professor Xiaodong Chen from Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, and Editor-in-Chief of ACS Nano.
Departing from the usual Friday lecture schedule, this additional event offered the QAMSS community a unique opportunity to engage with cutting-edge research in conformal bioelectronics and their role in advancing human–machine interfaces.
In his talk titled “Conformal Bioelectronics for Human Machine Interfaces,” Prof. Chen introduced recent breakthroughs in stretchable and bio-integrated electronics. He discussed strategies for creating seamless electronic interfaces with biological systems—devices that not only withstand deformation but also enhance signal fidelity in real-time applications.
A key highlight was his presentation of the BIND (biphasic, nano-dispersed) interface—a modular platform that enables robust integration between soft, rigid, and encapsulated components without adhesive pastes. This innovation underpins new developments in in vivo neuromodulation and on-skin electromyography, significantly improving electrode performance and accelerating the development of next-generation wearable and implantable electronics.
